What better way to explore LCAP engagement challenges than over lunch with peers? Gobo has started hosting a regional series of “Engage & Prosper” roundtables focused on addressing competing pressures and best practices for LCAP community engagement.
Consistent with our commitment to help share the good work California schools do, we are encouraging discussion about where school districts struggle most when it comes to LCAP Engagement, plus reviewing resources available to help. Our first roundtable event, held on October 19th, included teams in the San Bernardino area. Feedback focused on overcoming barriers with getting parents to participate in the LCAP process. Participants suggested simple approaches such as using plain language (instead of acronyms), “scaffolding” the information presented in context to family/parents, and coming up with a short 30-second “elevator speech” to help stakeholders quickly understand the LCAP.
Gobo released its free 2017 LCFF/LCAP Overview Infographic this summer to help LEA’s engage audiences. This LCFF/LCAP Overview Infographic provides concise, illustrated content that describes California’s state funding formula, and creates context for the district LCAP process. A new “Engage & Prosper” Infographic will also be available this fall, containing valuable LCAP engagement assessment, calendar, and best practices to make it easier for district teams to cultivate stakeholder participation.
Stay tuned for more events, and contact us if you are interested in participating (and a free lunch ;-).
